Today, November 14, 2020, rare vintages from one of Abruzzo’s most famous wineries Emidio Pepe will be auctioned in New York by the American auction house Zachys.
Auction will be streamed simultaneously worldwide and bidders can connect and bid from the whole world.

Montepulciano d’Abruzzo vintages 1993, 1998, 1979 are no longer on the market will be auctioned to international wine lovers. The prices for these rare bottles are expected to reach anything between $400 to $13000 for a lot (large formats, 6 or 12 bottles cases). It wouldn’t be the first time that Emidio Pepe’s wines fetch high prices: in 2017, the same auction house, sold a lot of the legendary Trebbiano 2004 for $4000 and a Montepulciano jeroboam (a 3-litre bottle) went to a buyer for $1200.
To make the experience even more special, one lot will also include a weekend in Abruzzo with renowned cookbook author and chef Mimi Thorisson, who loves so much Abruzzo and will host a cooking and tasting workshop at the winery’s agriturismo Casa Pepe in Torano Nuovo (TE) together with the lucky winners of the lot, in order to to give them the chance of seeing where those bottles come from, meet who has made them and understand deeply the philosophy behind.

The historic winery from the north of Abruzzo has a cellar filled with 350.000 bottles of 50 different vintages, some of them are more affordable than others. Emidio Pepe is one of very few producers that have always kept the standards of Abruzzo’s wines high. For decades, while others shipped their vino in containers to bigger producers in the North of Italy to be anonymously blended with more noble vintages, Emidio continued to show that Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and Trebbiano are quality wines to be respected.
